Forgotten Mountain Shrine - 2023
Wind through a forested mountain landscape, imbued with the fallen remnants of an ancient Japanese temple. The architecture, fashioned from a blend of assets utilizing Quixel Bridge, evokes a sense of intrigue. European Hornbeam Megascans enrich the environment with lush foliage, enhancing the realism of the setting. At the heart of this scene lies a weathered gravestone accompanied by a solitary vase bearing a pair of golden flowers.

Progress

In the initial version of the shrine environment, the forest elements sourced from the Quixel Bridge lacked foliage, presenting a notable problem from the envisioned environment setting.

In the development of the second iteration of the virtual forest environment, I leveraged the Quixel Megascans European Hornbeam Asset Pack to enrich the scene with a diverse array of tree models. This integration significantly enhanced the forest's visual density and complexity. However, an unforeseen consequence of this was the generation of an extensive fog throughout the forest. This atmospheric effect, while immersive, diverged from the original artistic vision intended for the environment, suggesting a need for adjustments in environmental settings or asset integration strategies to achieve the desired ambiance.

In the finalized rendition of the forest environment, the illumination of the scene has been refined to incorporate an overhead sun lamp, creating distinct crisp shadows to contrast the bright afternoon lighting. Additionally, the luminosity of the stone lamps has been adjusted to diminish the prominence of light rays due to the time of day. The color of the lamp lights have also been changed towards a more natural and warm hue.
